Before Elm, there was a foundation built on early mornings, long days, and a deep respect for the land.
Both Cathryn and Calvin were raised on farms, where they learned firsthand the discipline, resilience, and work ethic that define what we call “farm tough” — the commitment to getting the job done before sunrise and long after sunset. That foundation continues to shape the way we approach every project today.
Cathryn founded the business while still in high school, initially as a way to earn extra income while spending as much time outdoors as possible. What began modestly grew steadily through word of mouth, as neighbours and family friends came to appreciate her attention to detail and dependable service. After officially registering the business in 2014, she expanded its offerings season by season, cultivating a loyal and growing client base.
During this time, Calvin was completing his diploma in Construction Management while gaining hands-on industry experience. In 2021, he joined what was then Edgar Lawn Care, recognizing an opportunity to elevate its landscaping capabilities. In spring 2023, Cathryn and Calvin formally partnered and reintroduced the company as Elm Landscape Services — a reflection of their shared vision for thoughtful growth and refined outdoor environments.
Today, Cathryn leads garden and turf management with a meticulous eye for health and aesthetics, while Calvin spearheads the expansion of our landscaping division, bringing structure, strategy, and craftsmanship to every build.
